This outfit post comes with a funny story.
But first let’s take a moment to think about how pretty tulle skirts are. So pretty, right? If I had to wear one thing for the rest of my life it would be…sweatpants, obviously.
This tulle skirt would be a close second though.
Sorry. Back to the funny story.
So the night before my cousin’s wedding in Bangkok, I checked the invitation again to make sure we had the times right and discovered – to my horror – that I’d missed the line that asked guests to wear pastels. Before we left I’d spent hours agonising over what to pack, and had of course settled on a bright red and blue Betsey Johnson dress. Cue meltdown.
Me (reading the invitation): “Oh my god, no. AURGH MY GAHD NOOO!!”
Adam (frantically leaping from the bathroom): “What? What’s wrong?! Is everything ok? Are you hurt?!”
“OH MY GOD I MISREAD THE INVITATION AND I PACKED THE WRONG DRESS AND I NEED TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO WEAR RIGHT NOW!”
“Look. Nothing’s open right now love, so you need to calm down and….”
“THAT’S A LIE THE NIGHT MARKET’S OPEN GIVE ME YOUR WALLET I’MGOINGRIGHTNOWSEEYOULATER”
And so, with 15 minutes to go before the nearby night market packed up, I said my prayers to the fashion gods and quite literally made a mad dash for it. Thankfully I’d bought the tulle skirt earlier that day, so all I needed was something to wear on top.
Still, I don’t think I’ve ever shopped so decisively in my life. Within twenty minutes, it was all over…and I was back at the hotel with my new silver lamé tank putting together the outfit you see here. Ta-daaa!
I can’t say I blame Adam for rolling his eyes every time someone complimented my outfit at the wedding, and I replied coolly with, “Oh this? It’s just something I found at the night market.”
