Kimono jackets aren’t the most flattering shape on me, but I’m such a sucker for them. I picked this one up on my last trip to Bangkok from a local brand called Soda, which makes amazingly colourful, boho-luxe clothing. The collection this jacket was from was largely Asian-inspired and reminded me so much of the Kenzo outfits I used to buy. You know, before they forgot how to make clothing and started selling nothing but logo sweatshirts evolved.

I actually bought this jacket specifically as a spring/fall stand-in for my beloved winter one, but since it’s already getting too warm to wear this one as well, I guess I should start looking for an even thinner summer alternative!

It might not look it, but the top and over throw-over I’m wearing are actually two parts of one lovely shirtdress: I’m wearing the slip tucked in as a blouse and the outer “dress” part unbuttoned and loose. I actually bought it with the intention to wear it exactly like this – open and flowing in lieu of a kimono.

Don’t get me wrong. I love kimonos, but because I’m a bottom-heavy hourglass, it’s tricky to find ones that don’t make me look broader than I actually am. After much trial and error I think I’ve finally figured it out (long sleeves and hemlines are key!) but it’s just a heck of lot easier and more flattering for me to toss on a gauzy, unbuttoned shirtdress instead. This one, with its ruffled hem and metallic threads, is particularly beautiful and because of its khaki hue, surprisingly versatile. So much so that I think it’ll be popping up in many more summer OOTDs…and yes, maybe even as a dress one of these days!

ootd: ruffled maxi and boho sandals

gretstone1 Dress: Tobi // Sandals: Steve Madden // Sunglasses: Quay Australia

LA is such so laid-back that I never really need to dress up here…but once in a while I just miss leaving the house in something other than jeans. Maxi dresses are a great way to beat the denim blues (see what I did there?), and even though this one from Tobi wouldn’t be out of place at a wedding with heels and the right bling, it was easy enough to dress down with sandals and sunnies. I even brought a casual jacket for it in the car, but the day turned out to be far too hot for it.

By the way, I adore these Steve Madden sandals so much I’m thinking of getting another pair in a different colour – a terrible habit I’ve picked up from Adam. But I can’t help it. They’re so festooned in tassels and coins and rhinestones that I feel like a gypsy princess when I wear them!

P.S. For my eagle-eyed readers, the matchy-matchy nail polish colour is OPI Infinite Shine in Taupe-less Beach, my lip colour is Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss in Bourgeoisie and my smokey eyes are courtesy of SUQQU Designing Colour Eyes in #104 Natsusango (LE, but review and swatches here if you’re interested)
