Beauty Face of the Day

fotd: vice 3 editorial eyes

September 2, 2015

There’s been a lot of movement in Adam’s camera collection lately, which always means gear testing, which always means photo outings. I generally use Adam’s gear test sessions as an excuse to do some testing of my own – with more dramatic “editorial” makeup.

This look was inspired by a Chanel runway look from a few years back. I tweaked it to make it more wearable, nixing the eyelid gloss (which would no doubt be running down my face in this heat!) for a straight up metallic finish instead.

Here are some better photos of the eyeshadow in normal light. Scroll down for a description of what I used and how I created this look.

1. I drew over whole mobile lid with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Purple Velvet, and in the crease with Rust. Using cream shadow or pencils as a base gives eyeshadow something to adhere to, and intensifies their colour.

2. Next I pulled out my Vice 3 palette and blended patted Urban Decay’s Vanity all over the lid, blended out the crease with Alchemy, and used Bondage to darken up the outer Vs.

3. I lined my waterline with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion, then smudged along my lower lash line with Purple Velvet and blended that out with more Vanity.

4. I finished up with a very thin line of liquid eyeliner and and sheerest single coat of mascara because I didn’t want heavy liner or lashes to distract from the shadow.

Your husband takes amazing photos! I am much too self conscious to allow someone to take my makeup photos but that kind of limits me. This makeup look is stunning I absolutely love that purple against your pale skin and dark hair. Beautiful!

Thank you so much Ellen! I took me a long time to get used to the idea of being photographed so much…to be honest I’m naturally camera shy. I’ll have to do a post one day on how this blog came to be, but the short story is that my husband just wore me down after years and years of constant photos.
