sale alert: what i’m buying at the sephora sale 2016

November 5, 2016

The Sephora VIB/Rouge Sale just started, and I’m so excited! In fact, I was so antsy that I actually jumped the gun and bought this Burberry Festive Box at full price just days ago, since I was pretty sure it was going to sell out almost immediately (which it did on Sephora, but at time of posting is still available at Saks Fifth Avenue). After that I promised myself I’d be good and wait to do the rest of my shopping at 20% during the sale, which runs from the 4th to the 7th of November 2016. Here’s what I have in my cart in case you needed some inspiration on where to start..or if you were just curious! Prices listed are before discount.

Burberry-1

First up, some Sephora Favourite sets! Sephora puts together lots of these multi-brand sample boxes during the holiday season, and they’re such a great way to try out new products you’re curious about but don’t want to commit to buying a full-size item of. I’m eying up the Extravagant Eyes, Give Me Some Bold Lip and the Perfume Sampler that includes a coupon you can redeem for a full-sized bottle your favourite scent (which makes it a particularly clever Christmas gift).

Moving on to palettes, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette was an easy decision for me. Even though I already own lots of Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders, this palette has all new colours so I don’t have to feel guilty about buying repeats. I love the warm tones of Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Modern Renaissance palette, plus I keep hearing so much about the shadows’ amazingly buttery texture that I’m just about ready to cave and try it out for myself. The Kevyn Aucoin Contour Book Vol 2 is a gift, as I already have (and love) one. It’s probably my most-used contour palette, and it comes with me on every trip I take.

Next up, staples. Sunday Riley Good Genes has helped me so much in the last year that I’ve been using it that I’m a total devotee now. My pores are so much smaller and my skin texture has improved dramatically with regular use. I also need to replace my old Diorshow Overcurl Mascara, so I’ll be doing so with this version which comes bundled with a free mini eyeshadow quint. I love keeping a mini shadow palette in my daily makeup pouch for emergencies, and this is the nicest one I’ve seen in ages! Fresh Advanced Lip Therapy is kind of pricey for a lip balm, but it’s the only thing that heals my dry lips. I also just finished my tube of Fresh Tinted Lip Treatment in Tulip, so I’ll be replacing that too.

Finally, I need little Christmas gifts. Bite Beauty’s Amuse Bouche Lipstick Duos are always so cute (and always sell out so fast!) This year, they come with a glitter or sheen-y shade on one side, which makes them ultra versatile. I think Fig/Rose Gold is the best as a gifting colour, but personally I want them all! Bésame Cosmetics’ Classic Color Lipstick Matches are a perfect stocking stuffer idea because there inexpensive and really different. They look exactly as described: a book of little lipstick applicators shaped like matches, which are perfect for on-the-go bold lips when you don’t want to fuss with a lip brush. You get 15 applications per book. Dr Brandt’s Magnetite Age-Defier Mask is hands down the most futuristic and entertaining product I’ve seen at Sephora in a long time – it’s a mask that is removed not with water, but pulled off in flakes with a magnet. How cool is that? You can watch the demo video on Sephora’s site to see what I mean. And for the guys on my list, Jack Black gift sets all around! For Adam specifically, a Jack Black Its The Balm sampler set…but only because I can’t convince him to love Fresh lip balms as much as I do.

Now that you’ve seen what’s in my cart, I’d love to hear what you have in yours! Are you picking up something fun for yourself, Christmas shopping for friends and family, or being very disciplined and just stocking up on staples?

Thanks for the post; I love seeing what other people think is cool. I actually pre-scouted the sale this year, and had an order ready in my cart for midnight PDT, because I’m a weirdo (and conveniently in the Pacific timezone).

My splurges were the Hourglass Palette, which I got to swatch in store first, and *heart-eyed emoji*. I was also captivated by the Viseart Theory palette in Minx, which I think is too similar to splurges from previous years (2014 Tom Ford Cognac Sable quad – now discontinued. 2015 I got the Charlotte Tillbury Dolce Vita palette. Obviously neither of these were from Sephora, but the Sephora sale and my birthday are nearly always at the same time, so I try to space out splurgey purchases accordingly). I swatched it in the store, and the colors were so smooth, and buttery. I’m very excited.

I also stocked up on face masks, because I’m trying to do more self-care this year, and masks are a way to be indulgent about it. Also, I thought I had a bunch, but when I found the box after moving, it turned out there were only 2 left that were any good, both at least 1/2 gone. Other purchases were mostly replacements: more Advanced Night Repair serum, another beauty blender, etc.

I managed not to buy a single lipstick, which I’m so impressed by. Or, I would be if I wasn’t eyeing the Chanel LE Fleurie. 🙂

      What a luxurious haul, Gwen!

I was initially hesitant about the Hourglass palette till I swatched it, so I can totally relate to your *heart-eye emoji* face! I was verrrrry tempted by the Viseart palettes too. I hear their quality is amazing 🙂
