review: rouge bunny rouge silk aether cream eyeshadow

September 5, 2015

This was the perfect colour combination for a natural makeup look today – a nice change from the smokey eyeshadow looks I’ve been wearing a lot of late. My review and swatches are below.

Truth be told I have a love-hate relationship with cream eyeshadows. On one hand, I find them so luxurious in texture – nothing beats the silkiness of a good cream to powder formula. Plus, their tonal depth and intensity can be pretty miraculous in some instances. It isn’t easy to build a powder shadow up the kind of opacity you’d easily get with a cream.

On the other hand however, cream eyeshadows dry out. Sometimes, very quickly. I’ve had very few cream eyeshadows that maintained their original texture for more than a year, no matter how much they cost or how diligently I stored them. Inevitably they all harden and pull away from the edges of the pot.

But therein lies the beauty of these Silk Aether Long-Lasting Cream Eye Shadows by Rouge Bunny Rouge…no pot!

I’m not saying they’ll never dry out, but this delivery system significantly reduces the amount of air exposure which will undoubtedly prolong the life of the cream shadow.

I’m also a fan of the whipped cream-like texture of these and the doe foot applicators, as they make for a more gentle application process. Potted creams tend to have a firmer consistency, and I find that when I apply them with my fingers, I end up tugging on my lids a lot (which of course is terrible for my skin).

This duo in Gossamer Wing is a newer addition to the line of single shades. It features Brocade Skipper, a nude colour with a hint of champagne sheen and Atlas Swallowtail, a rich taupe that has an ultra-fine metallic sparkle. Both shades are wonderfully multi-dimensional and – once dry – totally budge proof. I had a heck of a time getting these swatches off my arm after the photo was taken!

Both shades work well as a subtle wash of colour but are buildable if you need them to be, and (as you’ve seen in my fotd) lend themselves well to natural makeup looks. If you’re the kind of person who loves sophisticated neutrals and the dab-and-go ease of cream shadows, you’ll probably love this!

Huh, this seems to pull a lot cooler on me than on you! It’s almost a slate grey/taupe look on me O_O

Really? It sheered almost completely out on me, so maybe thats why? My undertone is quite yellow especially around my eyes :/

Oh hai beautiful. I just wanted you to be aware I tapped your blog here:

Reading this almost makes me want to throw in the towel. God, look at all these high quality pictures. *slobbers* 😉

re: RBR cream eyeshadows: I tried that chiffon ringlets one. I couldn’t decide if I loved or hated the texture and presentation of it before I actually panned the thing. It’s almost a little too light and airy for my tastes, and I find the sponge applicator to be not so handy, as I’m a fingers person. And also a never put sponge applicators directly on my face so as not to contaminate the pot person. But, it was lightweight and airy enough to not accentuate wrinkles on my lids, which I really liked!

If you’re the kind of person who wears a lot of nudes, you should check it out. What specifically came to mind when I was reviewing this was that it would be an amazing compliment to something like UD Naked Basics.
