Ever since I discovered lip creams last year, I’ve been a huge fan. NYX wasn’t the first brand I tried, but so far it’s been the most reasonably priced and – correct me if I’m wrong – the only brand with such a wide range of colours.
It was torture to pick a single favourite colour from their range to review, so I didn’t. I picked five! From left to right we have: Istanbul, Tokyo, Morocco, Addis Ababa and Prague
Morocco – Bright, orangey red
Tokyo – A milky but still vivid light pink
Istanbul – The darker mauve version of my natural lip colour
Addis Ababa – Muted fuchsia, rather than the hot pink it appears to be in the tube
Prague – A rich, pinky-purple plum
Overall, the texture was what you’d expect of a lip cream, gliding on smoothly with the applicator wand and drying matte. The colours were all fairly saturated, but the lighter shades weren’t as opaque as I had hoped they’d be (in a single application).
The bottom line is that these didn’t have the same colour intensity or staying power of the high and mid-range lip creams I own. After lunch, my lips looked blotchy as the colour had worn off completely in some areas. My other lip creams tend to be so pigmented that there’s always an even layer of colour left clinging to my lips, but that wasn’t the case here.
Not that I’m complaining…at literally 80% less than the lip creams I’m comparing them to, Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams are still a steal. I’ll just have to remember to reapply more!
Psst: I bought these all online, because the colours I wanted tend to sell out at stores really quickly.
