Benefit Product Reviews The Highlighter Chronicles

the highlighter chronicles: benefit

April 18, 2015

Benefit High Beam is one of the products I’ve consistently used and repurchased since I was teen. Admittedly I haven’t used it in a while, but now that I have so much more experience with highlighters I thought I’d revisit it and see if I still how it stacked up against my newer acquisitions.

Because of its thin consistency, High Beam spreads very easily and lends itself best to a light application. While my other liquid highlighters tend to have a more gel-like texture, this is quite runny and needs a bit of extra care in blending to prevent visible edges.

I like to apply a think stripe on my my cheekbones and let it dry a little before blending it out. This helps me get a more dramatic highlight without having to build up layers of product.

For reference, it’s similar in tone but more sheer/less shimmery than Nars Illuminoator in Copacabana. Elf’s Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal, which is supposed a dupe for it, is darker and more peachy in its base colour.

In summary: Do I still like High Beam as much as I used to? Well, it still performs well as a sheer, light liquid highlighter, but to be honest there are other products in my stash that do this and more with less effort. Its consistency limits it to use on my cheekbones only – it’s not dense enough to us on my cupid’s bow or inner Vs.
