review: suqqu pure colour blush 03 sumiasayake

August 13, 2016

Since their launch on Selfridge’s site, several people have asked for a review of SUQQU’s new Pure Colour Blushes. Unfortunately I don’t own any of SUQQU’s Balancing Cheek blushes so I can’t compare the two, but hopefully this post will still prove useful to anyone interested.

The first thing you’ll notice about these blushes is that they feature a beautiful ombre gradient between 2 complimentary shades, a darker one on the left and a lighter one on the right.. They remind me of the Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzers, which I’d been lusting after but was ultimately disappointed by when I realised neither shade were perfect for my colouring. So these SUQQU blushes are the answer to my prayers!

SUQQU Pure Colour Blush is a new product line for the brand, comprising of 6 shades:
01 TSUBOMIZAKI – Pink/Coral
02 HANACHAORI – Nude/Blossom
03 SUMIASAYAKE – Red/Coral
04 URUSHIBI – Red/Pink
05 YAWAKOUKI – Nude Orange/Champagne
EX-01 AKEDAIDAI – Bright Orange/Cream

The first five are permanent, while the “EX” of EX-01 Akedaidai marks it as limited edition release.

The one you’re seeing here is 03 Sumiasayake, which is listed as a red/coral but on my skin is more like bright pink/sheer pale peach. According to SUQQU, the colours are meant to be worn either swirled together or layered with the lighter shade below and the darker colour as an accent on the apples of the cheeks. I personally like applying a mix of the shades all over my cheeks, and then brushing a little bit of the lighter shade on my cheekbones for extra pop. This swatch photo was taken in direct sunlight to show off the glow.

Per the press release, “The Pure Colour Blushers contain a generous amount of oil for a smooth, non-powdery finish that blends seamlessly into the skin, plus the pigments have an amino-derived coating that result in a dewy finish.” Between you and me, I’d never really thought of oil as being a component of powder blush…but whatever they did seems to have worked because I can vouch for the blush’s ability to meld into my skin rather than sitting like a powdery layer on top of it.

Sumiasayake was pigmented – more so in real life than in photos – but very easy to blend and sheer out. It wore well for over 8 hours (in non-airconditioned tropical temperatures) with no noticeable fading and though it has a bit of shimmer it didn’t emphasise my pores at all. In fact, it looked like a very flattering natural glow.

By the way, I’m wearing SUQQU Extra Rich Cream Foundation here and will be doing a proper review of it next. Lips are SUQQU Extra Glow Lipstick in EX-02 Mitsugaki, which is a very sheer coral balm.

Pricing and Availability: SUQQU Pure Colour Blushes are priced at £30, is currently available at Selfridges, and later this month (August 25th) at Fenwicks of Bond St and Harrods. Selfridges does tend to sell out online quickly, but you can still purchase these items via email to suqquuk@eqpuk.com

Hi Ying, according to my notes this was a mix of SUQQU Blend Colour Eyeshadow in 22 Kikyoutsubomi and EX-01 Rikkakou. Both are no longer readily available, but I feel like you could get a similar effect from Tom Ford Nude Dip which is a permanent quad. Hope that helps!
