SUQQU Ex-28 Kinshasuna 3

I must admit that while 22 Kikyoutsubomi was an easy buy for me, I was initially considering passing on Ex-28 Kinshasuna. I usually stay far away from cool colours (especially pastels!) because they aren’t flattering on me, but I’m so glad Adam and my friend Christine talked me into buying this. It’s become a fast favourite of my SUQQU collection.

Kinshasuna is made up of a light golden yellow, a pale icy blue, a complex white and a split pan of purple and rosy copper. Overall it does look quite cool, but I feel that the split pan really anchors this quad in wearably-neutral territory.

This is a bit off-topic, but my design sensibilities were delighted by the discovery that the dusty rose shade created by mixing the split pan is a very coherent tie-in to the shades of Kikyoutsubomi. You’ve just gotta give props to collections with strong yet unobtrusive themes.

The combination of white, frosty blue, and pale golden yellow reminds me very much of my beloved MAC Lightscapade, and when layered they have a similarly flattering effect: a magical opalescent hue that is neither cool nor warm.

Though I’d never have predicted it, I’ve fallen pretty hard for Kinshasuna. As evidenced here, it’s not just about pastels – though they definitely add an illuminated glow to any look you layer them over. There’s a lot more versatility to this quad than initially meets the eye, so if you’re on the fence about it…I’d recommend taking the plunge (especially because it’s limited edition. Eep!) but also really taking the time to really play with it.

It took me a couple of attempts to get a look that I really liked, but now that I’ve cracked the code it’s become quite special to me!
