Earlier this week I was invited to discover Laura Mercier’s newest lip product line, the Velour Extreme Matte Lipsticks. To be completely honest I don’t own a lot of makeup from them – their famed Translucent Loose Powder, Tinted Moisturizer and Matte Radiance Highlighter are the only products I’m familiar with – so I jumped at the chance to properly acquaint myself with the brand and possibly find some new “holy grail” items in their range.
The event space was a photography studio (a nod to Mercier’s start as a photographer) and featured a lovely little inspiration corner modeled after the founder’s own workspace. We were given a brief introduction to the origins of the brand, which was built largely upon the no-makeup makeup look that Mercier put on magazine cover models in the 70’s – no mean feat considering the era’s penchant for bright turquoise eyeshadow and coral lipstick!
We were also invited to test out the Velour Extreme Matte Lipsticks for ourselves in a mini lip makeover. The lovely makeup artist who assisted me matched mine to my pants by using a mix of Bring It and Queen.
The twist-up pencil lipsticks (with a concealed sharpener) are extremely pigmented, smooth and surprisingly comfortable for such a matte formula. Available in 24 shades, I think it’s safe to say that there’s a colour here for pretty much everyone.
As much as I loved the colours I tested at the event, I ended up picking shades that I didn’t already own multiple iterations of: Goals, a neutral light pink with a white base, and Clique, a neon pinkish-red. If I go back for more (which could happen!) it will most likely be On-Point, Vibe and Fresh. What Velour Extreme Matte colours catch your eye?
