going greige

March 16, 2015

I have a bad habit of dreaming up perfect lipstick colours that just don’t exist. Right now, the magical unicorn colour I’m after is a purple-tinged greige (or grey-beige, for long).

Luckily, I’ve come pretty close to mixing this dream shade myself from colours that do exist. For anyone interested in similar hues, here are the ones that I’ve been reaching for lately, to wear on their own or to mix. Mini reviews below.

Top to bottom:

OCC Lip Tar in Sebastian – The perfect neutral grey colour that, when mixed with another colour, mutes it and gives it an edgy twist.

L’Oreal Infallible 2 Step Lip Colour in Neverending Nutmeg – A dupe for Lime Crime’s Cashmere. Excellent staying power, but can be quite drying unless you reapply the balm it comes with.

Sephora Lustre Matte in Fig – My favourite liquid lipstick formula to date. Not drying, long lasting and I love the colour! A dupe for Bite lipstick in Cava.

NYX High Voltage Lip Colour in Stone – A nice beige nude that won’t make you look dead. Not particularly long wearing, but good pigmentation and not drying at all.

NYX High Voltage Lip Colour in Flutterkisses – My MLBB (my lips but better) colour. Very flattering and easy to wear, a bit on the rosy side.

NYX Round Case Lipstick in Thalia – Nice formula with good pigmentation. I like to use this as a base for mixing my nudes when I’m feeling creative.

NYX Round Case Lipstick in Power – I layer this over warmer colours to give them a cool light greyish tone, though it’s a pretty colour on its own!
