Laugh all you want, but I’ve always considered purple my “real” hair colour. It suits my complexion better than my natural hair colour (dark brown) and is what I default to more of often than not. I had purple hair through high school, and off and on since then. I even had purple hair on my wedding day – I would have felt very unlike myself without it.
I’ve never had short purple hair though, so this is a bit of a first.
I put the colour over my existing ombre highlights, which darkened my hair up significantly and made me look a little more goth than I was expecting. I played along with a soft smokey eye and some sharp cheek contouring with my all-time favourite contour colour: Bobbi Brown eyeshadow (yes, eyeshadow) in Cement. You’d best believe I’ll be dedicating a whole post to this soon.
I also broke out the gorgeous Surratt lip gloss I received for Christmas, which is an otherworldly purple in its tube but actually very subtle. Worn just over my lips, it shines a slight lavender-pink, with a blue-purple sparkle that’s only visible close up. I like things like that – special touches that are only visible if you know what to look for, or are paying close attention. Usually nobody does, and it’s my little secret!
