Beauty Face of the Day

fotd: do the dew

December 19, 2014

As someone who has super oily skin, being matte all day has been my beauty goal since puberty. I’m the kind of person who has a pack of blotting papers in every purse and shakes my head at cosmetics that promise a sheen…until I have a breakout. And then suddenly, I need – like, NEED – dewy skin.

Crazy right? I chalk it up to wanting what I can’t have: skin so even that it reflects light smoothly and perfectly. Again, not something I obsess over until I’m covered in bumps. Man, I know how to torture myself.

Coincidentally, the same skincare routine that’s been clearing up my skin (from an epic breakout/allergic reaction last month) has also made it super glowy. My skin still isn’t completely bump-free, but it’s recovered enough that a hint of shine doesn’t make me look like a lizard. Good enough! Here’s the dewy look I’ve been wearing a lot lately:

It’s not easy to tone down naturally oily skin into a subtle glow – especially in a hot, humid country like Singapore – but the right combination of products can work wonders. Here’s what I used:

Face:
Bare Minerals Prime Time Oil Control Primer on my T zone
Innisfree Anti-Trouble BB Cream applied with a Beauty Blender
Almay Clear Complexion Concealer
Bare Minerals Matte Foundation
Nars Light Reflecting Pressed Powder dusted all over
Urban Decay De-Slick Spray to set

Cheeks:
NYX Powder Blush in Taupe (as a contour) and Pinched

Eyes:
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Eyeshadow in Rio De Rose Gold all over
MAC Eyeshadows in Brown Down (crease) and Mystery (outer V)
Sephora Long Lasting Liquid Eyeliner in 01 Matte Black
Eyeko Lengthening Skinny Brush Mascara in Black

Brows:
MAC Eyeshadow in Mystery

Lips:
NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel
