Suqqu Summer 2018

April 24, 2018

As promised, here are some FOTDs from Jorge Balzaretti’s new Summer 2018 for SUQQU UK. You can read my review of the collection and see my swatches here.

I initially noted that the gold shade in Designing Colour Eyes palette 117 Natsukasumi was hard to pick up with my fingers. It does help to use a brush, although it remains a very sheer, very subtle gold glitter shade. I think my initial surprise was due to how pigmented the other colors in the palette were in swatched, so by comparison I was kind of thrown by this shade. That said, using this shadow on my lids has helped me appreciate it so much more – I love that it looks like a fine dusting of gold pixie dust and can be swept over all the base color shades, rather than overpowering the cool pink-purple hues with warmth. It didn’t show up much in photos, but it’s a nice, delicate finishing touch for someone like me who enjoyes multi-textural eyeshadow looks.

I tried to follow the collection’s suggested blush placement, i.e. right under the lower lash line and down onto the tops of cheeks. On it’s own, it’s a lively magenta blush that brings a certain youthful femininity to the complexion. Combined with the strong purples in the eye palette and applied with a heavier hand than normal, it made for a very editorial look.

Of course this can all be toned down into being completely work-appropriate if you wish, but I like testing makeup at this intensity because it helps me gauge how well colors layer and blend. As always, SUQQU and Jorge nailed it – even the darkest shade in the eye palette built flawlessly without any hint of patchiness, which speaks volumes not only about the quality of the shadows themselves but how much work went into fine tuning their pigment-to-base ratios.

I finished off the look with a deliberately smudgy swipe of Extra Glow Lipstick in 110 Kouki. I’d never have thought to match peach lipstick with an otherwise pink-purple look, but whaddya know? It turned out way more interesting this way. I’ll have to remember this combo in the future.
