I was expecting it to have warmed up considerably by now, but since it’s still a little chilly here in LA, my plans for light, beach-ready summer makeup have been on hold in favour of fall-esque jewel tones. Although I don’t usually like to revisit sold-out limited edition items, I’ve really been reaching of MAC’s Red Hot x 9 palette quite a bit lately and just wanted to show it some love.
I actually took this to Tokyo/LA with me in lieu of my much-loved Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette because it a similar red/pink colour mix but was much, much smaller and – being made of hard plastic rather then cardboard – much more durable for travel. While I wouldn’t consider them dupes for one another, I do think you could achieve a similar look with Modern Renaissance, which is a permanent product and easier to come by.
Alternatively, Frock Talk (the colour I used all over my lid and the main part of this look) can be substituted with Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow in D826 Fig, which is sparkly and a hair brighter.
Lips are MAC Viva Glam IV, which I’ve discovered to be perfect pairing for warm red or plummy eyeshadow looks. I always struggle with finding a non-nude, go-to lip for dramatic eyeshadow colours and this has proven to be an excellent candidate. Its a pleasant surprise because, to be completely honest, I only bought it to support the cause the Viva Glam line contributes to: every cent of the sale of these lipsticks goes towards MAC’s AIDS fund, which you can read more about here.
