Face of the Day Make Up For Ever

November 30, 2016

Now this is a cool holiday collection. I love the artistic brushstroke detailing on Make Up For Ever’s Holiday 2016 packaging – it’s festive while still being totally in sync with their branding, and not OTT Christmas-y either, know what I mean?

Anyway, with all that red you’d think I’d have cracked into this and gone straight for a bold red lip….but no. I was actually most drawn to that eyeshadow palette and trying to come up with a really unique look with it when the PR peeps from Make Up For Ever Sinagpore serendipitously emailed me with a face chart proposal. They’d designed a super vibrant holiday look for me using the last 3 colours in that palette, which was such an unusual combo of shades that I was immediately like, “CHALLENGE ACCEPTED”. I wouldn’t have thought to wear peach, emerald, and magenta together on my own so I’m glad they reached out and nudged me in that very unexpected direction!

Of course I had to put my own spin on things, so instead of wearing the magenta as a traditional blush I brought it way up to my lower lashline and faded it downwards in a very theatrical high blush placement.

I was very much in love with how this look turned out and didn’t want to take it off, but since I had to run some errands and didn’t want to look *quite* so dramatic at Home Depot, I compromised by keeping most of the eyeshadow intact and just toning down the lower lashline/blush. Just for fun, here’s some before and after iPhone shots to show how this can actually be very wearable with a more conventional blush placement.

Side note: I’m always surprised by how different I look in iPhone photos. My eyes look bigger, my skin actually looks skin-coloured…it’s all very flattering. The reality however is that the photos Adam takes of me are far more accurate (especially where the proportions of my features are concerned) which is why I typically stick to those for FOTDs.
