This look was a bit of a fail, due not to what I used (SUQQU EX-35 Yuki Tsubaki, reviewed here) but how I used it. To clarify, I love the way this look turned out…but it wasn’t at all what I was going for! This was supposed to be a less dramatic, more wearable take than my first FOTD with it, but clearly I just can’t be trusted to show restraint with brights.
I did the upper lid in a fairly delicate wash of the pale base, shimmery pink and dark brown but the second my brush tapped that amazing fuchsia, all my self control just vanished and a million different placement ideas popped into my head. Of course the one that won out was not the easy, everyday look I’d hoped to do. Ah well! When inspiration strikes, it’s always best to roll with it.
For the record, I’ve tried wearing this quad several times with a softer lip and I always end up wiping it off and going with a red or deep pink instead. In my opinion, the drama of that that fuchsia shadow just needs to be balanced with a bold lip. Which reminds me: the one objective I did succeed in with this FOTD was nailing down an easily obtainable, non-limited-edition lip colour that works well with Yuki Tsubaki. This is Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Plaid, a perfect tonal match if you’re into bold lips too.
