Face of the Day NARS

There’s nothing that quite captures the soul of a collection (fashion or beauty) like a set of beautiful illustrations. In some way, they almost seem more honest than photography – especially when rendered in the raw, deceptively simple style of Konstantin Kakanias, genius illustrator behind the packaging of NARS’ 2016 summer collection.

Encapsulating chic European summers, the illustrations were inspired by both the French Riviera and François Nars’ behind-the-scenes experience on photoshoots. He even makes a cameo appearance in one of the art works:

I’d never have thought to pair bright turquoise eyeshadow with red lips before, but those painted ladies were so glamorous I had to give it a try. I essentially copied the drawing above: bright blue (Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Deep End) on my lid fading into a brown crease, pink cheeks (Orgasm blush) and bright red lips (Lip Cover in Do Not Disturb).

The formula of the Dual Intensity Eyeshadows and Blushes are the same as the ones in their permanent collection, but the Lip Covers – satin-finish liquid lipsticks – are a new product entirely. They’re also an absolute delight to wear: comfortable, pigmented, easily spreadable and not at all drying. And that red! It’s hard to put this on and not be like, “Ok NARS. You can stop showing off now.”

I really hope NARS makes their Lip Covers permanent and expands the range to include more colours. I’ll be praying to see more of these in their fall collection, but in the meantime…you’ll be seeing a lot of Do Not Disturb on me this summer!

So pretty. Love that you let your flawless, glowing skin shine through in every look. Your makeup never looks caked on. It’s glam, but not overdone.
