Face of the Day

fotd: in the mood for nude

February 1, 2016

I’ve been sporting very natural looks lately, due a little bit to travel but mainly to my need for a makeup “reset” after the glitter-bomb that was the holiday season. I never thought I’d say this, but once in a while you really do need a break from smokey eyes and vampy lips!

The start of 2016 was the perfect time for me to re-evaluate my makeup. I thought hard about what worked for me and what doesn’t, mercilessly trimmed the fat of my stash, and set myself some beauty resolutions…one of which was to embrace lighter makeup.

It’s weird admitting this online, but I’ve had a long history of not loving the way I looked. When I got into makeup as a teenager, it was something I used to transform rather than enhance. And not in a good way. I hid behind a heavy mask of makeup for a very long time, and only recently did I start to really make peace with what I saw in the mirror. Seems what they say is true: the older you get, the more comfortable you become with yourself (mostly because you stop caring so much about what other people think).

I don’t think I’ll ever willingly leave the house with a completely bare face, but for now I’m good with taking baby steps in the right direction. And by right direction I mean towards Sephora to test out all the new sheer spring makeup!

I follow your blog quite often because you’re really creative with your colour choices and mix and matches. Also, came to love RBR liquid highlighter when I first stumbled over here for the review – aside from my go-to cle de peau highlighter, RBR sea of clouds in essence enhances what you have. It doesn’t take away nor layer on too much that isn’t you. A little on the nose, and I instantly feel more put together and ready to skip out to work! But I do so agree with you on what you shared! I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin though I do obsess more abt good complexion, lightweight base makeup that doesn’t oxidise and keeps me looking glowy and healthy (i have ridiculously oily skin), and buttery smooth eyeshadow shades that flatter the eyes. 😀 Anyway, this new foundation intrigues. I just got the Suqqu lasting pact powder foundation so I can’t wait to try that. x

Aw, this is a wonderful post! I love the lip color. What shade are you in Nars tinted moisturizer? I also favor lighter makeup. It means you get to put more energy into skincare

Thank you so much Natalie. I’m L1 Finland in NARS.

And on the flipside, light makeup is also a great way to show off all the effort you’ve put into skincare! Unfortunately my skin is a little wrecked from travel, but I’m loading up on the sheet masks and keeping my fingers crossed.
