This was actually a FOTD that I wore a few months ago for Chinese New Year, photographed, and then promptly misplaced the photos of (till now). That should explain all the red you’re seeing, though if you’re able to look past the shirt and matching earrings the makeup on its own is actually quite neutral.
I started this eye look with a layer of Moonshot Jelly Pot in Malibu Rum, which is one of my favourite potted cream shadow. It’s a matte, warm tan that is perfect on its own for a wash of colour or as a base shade since it blends out so beautifully to give you that “blown out” look through the crease and under the eye. I’d forgetten how much I love this formula – so this is a good reminder that I should go back to Sephora and pick up a few more colours (though I suspect this might already be the best one).
The red/gold shimmer layer on top of it is actually just one fabulous duochrome eyeshadow: Topshop’s Chameleon Glow Eyeshadow in Shuffle the Cards. This was a very, very thoughtful Christmas present from a friend and has been living in my favourites drawer ever since it arrived. It’s sheer, which makes it the perfect shadow topper for looks that are fine…but need a little something special. I finished up the eye look with a little bit of Urban Decay Hustle in the outer corners for definition.
And since it WAS Chinese New Year, there was no avoiding red lipstick. This is YSL Glossy Stain in 09 Rouge Laque, which I felt was a touch too cool for the whole look (my earrings are a warmer red) but made me feel so darned festive I just couldn’t resist. Anyway, there’s no such thing as the wrong kind of red if you’re trying to court good fortune for the rest of the year.
I posted my whole Chinese New Year outfit on Instagram a while ago, but just in case you’re curious about how much red I was wearing in total, the answer is…a lot. And since 2017 seems to be going alright so far, maybe my efforts paid off!
