fotd: golden chinese new year makeup

Since today marks the official start of the year of the monkey, I thought I’d borrow some makeup inspiration from my favourite species of primates: Golden Lion Tamarins. Even if they weren’t my favourite, you really can’t get more auspicious than that!

Here’s a requisite monkey face before we get down to (monkey) business. Ok ok I’ll stop now.

That beautiful orange-gold shade is my one true love, Ardency Inn Manuka Pressed Pigment in Copper (shown here in a tulip placement, if you’re looking for different ways to wear it). I know I’ve raved about it before, but it would be a sin to post and not mention how amazing it is. If you’re a fan of warm golden shades like this, it’s an absolute must-own shadow.

The placement I did with it this time was pretty simple: I patted it all over my lid and blended out the edges with MAC Omega. Everything else came courtesy of my Tartlette palette again. I darkened my outer Vs with Fashionista, and used Dreamer as a transition shade in the crease before blending it all out with Multi-Tasker.

Confession: because Chinese New Year is the perfect time to err on the side of tacky, I road-tested tried this makeup a couple of days ago and topped it with gold liquid liner to work in more bling. Sadly the cooler true gold against warm copper looked way off, so if you like this look and want to make it even more festive, my advice would be to go with a champagne glitter (like this one) instead.
