I need to start this post off with a huge rave for Moonshot Jelly Pots eyeshadow, which is what I’m wearing on my eyes here in Moon Revenge. I had some time to kill while waiting for Adam the other day, so I ambled into Sephora figuring I’d check out some less familiar brands to see if I’d find anything exciting. And did I ever!
If you haven’t encountered Moonshot Jelly Pots before, they’re little pots of cream shadow that have an unusually fluid consistency best described as a thick, highly pigmented paste. What really sold me on these is that although some of the testers looked super dried out, they swatched SO WELL I was just blown away. They were pigmented, smooth, and blendable despite obviously being way past their prime. I bought one immediately because who doesn’t want a cream shadow that continues to be usable till you actually use it up?
It took me wearing it to discover yet another perk: this stuff blends like a dream. I’ve always had trouble completely blending the edges of cream shadow looks – I find they set so quickly on my eye lids that I have to do one eye at a time, and even then I’m definitely blending too aggressively for how delicate the skin is in that area. And because raw eyelids are not torture enough, sometimes cream shadows will also catch my (powder) transition colour weird and I’ll just end up with a patchy mess. I think we’ve all been there.
But these Jelly Pots were so easy to work with that I was able to leisurely pat it on both lids before blending, and when I did take a powder transition shadow to the edges I had no trouble with it catching at all. I blended this out with Eggshell and Wine, from my proving-to-be-indispensible Artist 4 Palette from Make Up For Ever (review and swatches here, FOTD here)
Colour-wise this FOTD reminds me a little of Chanel’s Le Rouge 2016 collection, of which I loved the concept but not the textures. It’s also a little less dramatic and more wearable – the result of toning the look down a little with a natural, un-done brow and slightly glossy lips. I can see myself recreating this look over and over again all season…maybe with a different Jelly Pot or two, now that I’m so obsessed with them. Time to hit Sephora!
