Have you ever fallen into a makeup rut? I remember when I used to work in an office and pretty much wore the same makeup day in and day out. It wasn’t boring to me then because I just thought of it as a professional uniform for my face, but I always made a point to experiment with a wider variety of colours and looks when I could.
Now with all the products I review, it’s rare for me to wear the same look two days in a row. So it’s no exaggeration to say that I surprised myself by wearing this look for almost a solid week. I actually put it together when I was on the fence about buying Tom Ford Soleil Eye & Cheek Palette in Solar Exposure; this was my attempt to see if the shades would be too cool/neutral for me.
This is by no means a dupe look – though I was so pleased with the outcome that I decided against buying the Soleil palette! – I just think it comes reasonably close in terms of overall effect, even though the textures of the individual shadows I used are quite different. For this look, I started with NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia all over the lid, and from my Tartelette Palette I used Power Player in the crease and Bombshell to darken the outer V. I finished up with some Urban Decay Moondust in Cosmic for a little added sparkle.
While I’m usually against cool eyeshadow and ambivalent about neutrals, this look somehow just clicked for me. I didn’t feel washed out or blah in any way, just really pulled-together which came in handy for all the meetings I had lined up that week. And although I’ve since gone back to my experimental ways, this was a happy rut to temporarily fall into – I know I’ll be revisiting it the next time I need a foolproof, polished daytime look and hope it helps anyone else looking for inspiration for something similar!

April 3, 2017 at 2:03 pmI think you look great in these colours. I wear similar foundation shades as you, but I am much cooler (meaning green/olive–not pink) in tone, so warm colours actually wash me out unless I use the right combination of colours overall. And, yes, the overall feel of the colours you duped for the Tom Ford palette is good enough. It’s funny how we buy all these new releases, but we can easily recreate the look with items we already have at home. LOL!
