fotd: cool and warm pinks

March 9, 2017

Something you should know about me is that I never start my makeup with a clear goal look in mind – I just pick a colour family I feel like wearing and kind of pile things on willy-nilly and pray it all works in the end. Getting a coherent result is totally like hitting the jackpot for me, so when I say things like “I really loved how this makeup looked!” please know that I’m not bragging. I’m marvelling at how lucky I got.

And I sure did get lucky with this look. Balancing a mix of warm/cool pinks is something I’ve been trying to get right for a long time, and I’m thrilled that it came together so well for me here.

I started with Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Modern Renaissance palette, which has really been my go-to since I bought it some months back in the US. You can read my review here, but what I love about it in a nutshell is that it makes creating a flawless warm eye look so ridiculously easy. Between the expertly planned shade range and the amazingly blendable textures, it’s just THE palette to own if you like warm colours.

The pop of cool purple-pink on the inner corners comes courtesy of MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Soft Frost. I bought it when it first came out and the cool sheen worked pretty well on my pale winter skin, but now that I’m a little more tanned I’m kind of liking it better as an eyeshadow instead.

As for the lips, both colours are by MAC – the darker colour is Girl About Town, and the lighter one is Royal Azalea, which is my husband’s all-time favourite lipstick colour and sadly discontinued. I had a lot of fun doing an ombre lip for these photos but for practical reasons (and by popular demand, ahem) I switched it out for a solid wash of Royal Azalea when I left the house.

I adored the previous look you did so I had to comment this one as well! From the lip combos I prefer Girl About Town, maybe because it’s more harmonious with the orange eyeshadow. I love the mix of colors, I’ve never tried combining purples and peach or warm/cool in the same eye look. I usually do all cool/warm eyes and then have opposite blush tone. Anyhow, beautiful as always!

Thank you so much my dear! Girl About Town is really one of my favourite MAC lipsticks of all time because it’s so brightening. I have yet to try all cool/warm with a contrasting blush, but thank you for that idea!
