It’s far more common for me to use multiple eyeshadows in a look, but some days a simple wash of colour with only one shade can be just as lovely. It’s also super fast and easy, so it’s great for days when you’re in a bit of a rush.
The technique is so simple: just pick your favourite eyeshadow colour and apply it with a fluffy crease or blending brush all over your lid, concentrating the colour on your mobile lid and blending out from there. For a little bit of extra dimension, you can pack on denser layer right on the centre or your lid with a flat eyeshadow brush…or a finger!
The only mildly tricky thing about this look is picking the right shadow for the job. I like metallics, because their reflective quality is both more brightening and forgiving than mattes. I also like to use light neutral colours because they keep the look very fresh, and again because they’re more forgiving to work with when speed-blending. My personal preference is for rose gold tones, but shimmery taupes and champagnes work beautifully too. I’ve listed some of my favourite single eyeshadows for this look below.
In this photo, I’m wearing Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow in Velvet Plum, and since I’d gone so light on the eye makeup I did a hot pink lip with Peripera Peri’s Ink in #1. If you’re thinking about picking this up, I definitely recommend buying it as a bundle with the Ink Remover as the colour is hard to remove entirely – even at the end of the day – without it. I have white bedsheets, so it was a must for me.
Do you have a favourite eyeshadow that’s perfect as a single-color look? I’d love to hear about it!
