I have to this is probably my least favourite challenge look so far. Smoked-out eyeliner sounded pretty fantastic in theory, but it’s just not for me.
I started by lining my eyes and then smudging it out with eyeshadow. The liner required a lot of working to blend out, so much so that even though I used ultra-soft brushes it still felt like I’d worked my eyes over with sandpaper by the time I’d gotten the effect I wanted. The liner also settled into the fine lines around my eyes by the end of the day – if you look closely at my lower lash line you can already see the start of this.
I think a lot of this had to do with me using the wrong eyeliner for the job. All I’d packed was Sephora’s Nano Liners, and while they perform pretty well in Singapore they are much firmer and harder to work with here in LA where it’s colder.
As disappointing as this was, it’s still useful to have been made aware of what doesn’t work for me. How wonderful that as transformative as it is, makeup simply washes off at the end of the day. Onwards to the next challenge!
